Project Showcase

Picasso

Picasso is an online payment for an art gallery incorporating AR features for better usabiliy.

Project Overview

Challenge

The main problem for online art collectors is they cannot see how the artwork fits and looks on their walls. They are solely relying on the picture displayed on the app. Hence the users are not able to make a judicious decision since they are not able to visit museum physically.

Solution

Integrating an AR feature to mock the display of artworks on user's environment.

EMPATHIZE

Understanding user

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was businessmen who invest in arts.

This user group confirmed initial assumptions about art collectors, but research also revealed the difficulty faced by them in making a decision soley based on images. Users refrain from visiting galleries because online payments are quick and easy. However, this problem of not seeing the object in 3D was something the user group were not able articulate.

Persona

Dev

Business man and art-enthusiast in his 30's

User story :

As a businessman who loves art, I want a way to see how art pieces fits on my walls before ordering online, so that I don’t have to travel and make purchases in-person.

Goals
  • To find a solution to buy art without visiting a gallery
Frustrations
  • Not able to decide a purchase based on images in an app
  • Not able to buy art-pieces recently due to lockdown

DEFINE

Pain points

  • Cannot visit galleries in person
  • Product purchase ambiguity

Problem Statement

Dev is an art-enthusiast who needs art-pieces and see how it decorate his home because he cannot decide a purchase only by viewing mere images.

Design Ideas

After the competitive audit, various gaps and improvement opportunities where found out.

Gaps
  • The payment process of competitors product does not allow AR view
  • There is less information regarding artists which lessens the credibility of artworks displayed in app
Opportunities
  • A separate section/blog can be dedicated for featuring artists
  • Offer an inbuilt AR feature in order to superimpose the image on real environment.

Usability Study findings

  • Users want a quick action wish list button on the home screen
  • User needs more cues in understanding what a search filter is used for.

Takeaways

What I learned

Conducting usability studies reveal problems we missed or overlooked. Testing design in the early stage is crucial to avoid major changes later in the design process.

Next steps

The design can be improved by adding an QR Code scanning feature . This helps to make payment easy even if someone is visiting the gallery in-person. Another round of research and user interview can be conducted to incorporate this feature.
